Thanks Paul! Yeah, well I think informing potential customers about free sites and letting them decide the pros and cons is probably the better choice. At least they know what they’re getting into if they do choose the free route!

Great post Wendy. What I like about premium WA membership is the unlimited sites that you can host on their servers. Could you not tell potential business customers about free hosting?
If you think about it…it can potentially make your own business thrive.

Yeah, I’ve heard similar stories… which is why I wouldn’t recommend using a blogger type site as your money earner! You just never know!

Siterubix sites are good, but the only thing about them is if you’re using them as a free member of WA, they will go through and delete it eventually, like after 6 months (if you don’t upgrade). It happened to my brother, however, they did warn him ahead of time and gave him a chance to either upgrade his account, or move the site somewhere else. He ended up moving to wordpress.com because he just wanted a personal blog site, not a business. It would never be the case that they would just randomly delete the site for no reason, though.

I think if you’re serious about your business, 6 months is enough time to decide if you want it to be the real deal or not.

One of the things that scares me about using free sub-domains is lack of control over certain situations. I once read a story on a popular blog about an acquaintance of his who had a $2,000 per month income coming in from Adsense ads on free Google blogger blog. He unknowingly violated the terms of service and his business was wiped out just like that!

This is not something that can be easily replaced as anyone knows. That’s why you need to be very careful with who provides your sub-domain. I do know that siterubix sites are safe from these types of things and because of the ease of use, I won’t even bother looking at any of the others.
