You might be skeptical about Seth Hymes Digital Marketing Career Blueprint, so let me explain a little about the program and hopefully, I can help you decide whether it’s the right course for you.
Whether you’ve already graduated college, are currently working on a degree, or you’re looking for a job without a traditional four-year education, the information provided within Seth Hymes Digital Marketing Career Blueprint might be valuable to you. Digital Marketing is a very hot and in demand job market right now, and there is a surprising lack of qualified applicants. Something that is unique about this market is many jobs don’t actually require a specific degree (or no degree at all) but rather prefer the applicant has the knowledge and some experience within the industry.
The truth is, if you have experience and understanding of digital marketing – SEO, PPC, Content Marketing, Analytics, and Social Media Campaigning – you could potentially be a great applicant for many companies that are looking to fill those types of positions, even without a relevant degree. But the question remains, is Seth’s Digital Marketing Career Blueprint a good course to learn the relevant information needed to get jobs within the field, or is there a better alternative?
What is Digital Marketing Career Blueprint? An Overview
Digital Marketing Career Blueprint was created by Seth Hymes, a professional Paid Search Specialist. This isn’t like other products that promise you a “secret system to earn $10,000 overnight” or some other ridiculous claim, rather it’s a course that teaches you the basics of the digital marketing field. He says his course can help land you a job within the industry earning up to $60,000 within a year.
Seth Hymes discovered a hot job market and realized that these jobs can be filled by people who are willing to learn the material and gain experience by taking action. In fact, I even touched on this very same idea in this post I wrote a few years ago. So I very much agree with Seth on his perspective. There are colleges out there that charge you tons of money for degrees in this field (like Full Sail University) which isn’t necessarily required to get a job.
The Digital Marketing Career Blueprint Course Includes:
Over 10 hours of training including:
- Learn Google Adwords/PPC
- Social Media Marketing
- Email Marketing
You will learn the process of buying your own domain, obtaining web hosting and building your own website.
Help with writing your resume and interview guidance
- Create a resume that’s proven to be effective at attracting the attention of recruiters in this field
- Interview tips and strategies
Client Case Studies – learn how students have completed the course and went on to get an actual job
Personal Mentorship Forum
There is a forum within the course that all members have access too, and that you can receive professional help from. Seth claims he will personally help you out if you ever need it, even after you get your first job.
You’ll also be referred to other low cost or free training resources within the course.
Seth also has added a course that teaches you how to start your own freelancing career doing digital marketing work if you would prefer to work for yourself, rather than be employed by anyone. You can also take the skills you learn and apply them to your own website.
Digital Marketing Jobs – Are they really that easy to get?
Well, let me point out that “digital marketing” actually refers to many different jobs within the same field.
Here are a few common ones you might see if you’re trying to do a Google search, or an employment search on a site like Indeed:
- Digital Marketing Specialist
- Marketing Coordinator
- SEO Specialist
- Social Media Manager
- Digital Marketing Analyst
- Content Strategist
- Paid Search Specialist
While the digital marketing field is growing, the ability to get a job within the field will come down to the individual. There’s a lot of different factors that go into getting a job – location, experience, technical abilities, strengths, and networking. Some people might have a much easier time fitting into the field and finding work. There certainly isn’t any guarantee of employment after the course is completed, and much of it will come down to your ability to take action on what you learn.
You’re probably not going to immediately get a high paying job in the field after a few weeks of studying the course material – it’s going to come down to action on your part, and gaining the necessary skills and experience. And as with any job, where you live is going to play a huge role in the jobs that are available to you if you are looking to get hired through a company.
Nevertheless, these jobs are still available on the market if you look. Here’s an example of a job posting I found today, for a Pay Per Click Specialist:
The job posting wants you to have experience with many different platforms for digital marketing like Facebook Ads, Bing Ads, Adwords and Google Analytics, but it doesn’t necessarily require you to have specific employment experience, and a degree is not even required. That is what is sort of unique to this field, is your personal experience and knowledge can be a huge plus and benefit you more than a traditional degree.
However, I will point out that many of these job listings do require a degree and some even require several years of experience. But there are still many that don’t, so it just depends on the company that is hiring.
How much does it cost? Is it worth the price?
The course is $97 per month, and there’s no obligation to stay for any length of time. His course is pretty basic and for beginners, so most people might find they can complete the course within the first month. They also offer a money back guarantee.
You’re also going to need to purchase your own domain and hosting, so that is an additional cost – $15/year for a domain + $10 – $20/ month for basic hosting.
If you run any Adword or Facebook campaigns for your own website, that is also another cost to consider.
Honestly, while I think it can be a great course to get started in this field, I don’t see Seth’s Digital Marketing Career Blueprint really providing enough value on a monthly basis to justify the $97 recurring fee. It may be worth it for the first month, but considering there’s no additional training, web hosting or tools provided it’s kind of steep to remain a member (in my opinion anyway).
Do you really need the Digital Marketing Career Blueprint course to land a job?
What I like about Seth’s course is that it doesn’t just teach you digital marketing concepts, it goes beyond to actually help you use the skills you learn to build a resume and apply for jobs. I think this can be a valuable starting point and resource for many people who are interested in getting involved in digital marketing, but it certainly isn’t required and there are many different ways you can go about learning the field and gaining experience without this particular course.
You can find much of the information with Google for free, and take some cheap Udemy courses to get a basic grasp of digital marketing. However, trying to navigate all the information on your own and know what exactly is important and what isn’t can be difficult for many people to do. There’s a major benefit to having the information all laid out in an easy to follow format, as well as having additional support.
And remember, finding a job is going to take a lot of ambition on your part – his course is not enough on its own.
My top recommendation to learn and gain real experience in digital marketing
If you’re a total beginner and interested in learning this field while gaining some experience to have under your belt, I can recommend to you an amazing educational platform and community in which many people (including myself) get there start – it’s called Wealthy Affiliate. They teach the basics of starting your own online business. Through the training, you will learn all aspects of digital marketing via creating, producing content and marketing your own website.
Having your own website is a great way to learn and gain experience on your own, without actually landing a job first. You’ll be able to gain experience for Facebook campaigns, PPC, email marketing, content creation and so much more.
What I especially like about Wealthy Affiliate is that it goes beyond just being a basic course. They actually provide web hosting for your sites within the membership, their own domain registrar, keyword tool, content tools, ongoing training, and live courses. They also are a huge growing community, with lots of people to help you out and even network with. You can even try it for completely free. Read more about Wealthy Affiliate here.
