Are you looking for a Megatypers review and wondering if it’s a legit way to earn some extra cash online or just another scam site? Do they actually pay you? I wanted to share some details from the inside and tell you how it works, so you can decide for yourself if you want to invest time into this or not.
Quick Summary: Megatypers (aka Protypers), located at megatypers.com and protypers.com, is one of many online captcha typing jobs that allows essentially anyone to sign up and start solving captchas to earn money. While it may sound like a super simple, easy way to make money online, it’s not worth it. You’ll see why after reading through how awful it is!
If you’re just looking to make some easy cash online, there are better options. Online surveys can be a good option if you’re just looking for minimal cash, Paidviewpoint is one of my favs and Survey Junkie is good too!
What is Megatypers?
Megatypers is a website that pays you to decipher captchas. If you’ve heard of Protypers, it isn’t just similar, it’s actually the exact same company. (And there are many more websites out there like these).
The appeal is that it’s entirely free and there are no restrictions on who can sign up.
Megatypers advertises as being a great online data entry job where you can easily earn $250 per month. It may be technically a “data-entry” job, but it’s not really much of a job at all and I’d bet that 99.9999% of people would never be able to earn that much.
In fact, this network operation of online captcha solving jobs has even been referred to as a “virtual sweatshop” because of the fact that many people in low-income countries are willing to do this type of grueling and tedious work for mere pennies per day.
What is a captcha typing job?
Basically a “captcha typing job” is where you sit and solve captcha codes all day long. You’re probably familiar with captchas as those super annoying strings of letters and numbers you need to enter to prove you’re not a bot.
There are several issues in this line of work, for starters, ethical concerns. Captchas exist for a reason, so who are you solving them for? (spammers!)
Another thing to realize is that you’re doing it for an extremely low amount of money ($1 – $2 per day if you’re really good at it) and that’s IF they don’t ban your account first (which happens frequently for a lot of reasons, or maybe no reason at all).
Most of the workforce for these types of jobs come from developing nations, where it’s common to work for just a dollar or two per day.
How solving captchas works
Megatypers has a really straightforward interface. Once you sign up, it’s pretty easy to get started.
You’re given a maximum of 15 seconds to solve each captcha code, and if you can’t do it within 15 seconds you’re kicked out for “inactivity”. If this happens too many times, you’ll get banned.
Decoding these captchas doesn’t really involve a lot of skill (aside from getting super good at typing) but it’s extremely monotonous.
The one pictured above may not be that difficult to decipher, but many of them are tricky.
Captchas can also be images too, like this…
You’re supposed to type the numbers within the picture, only they’re impossible to read…
The other image captchas I came across weren’t any better either.
Also, the system seems pretty buggy. I kept getting notices that the image wasn’t loading, so it’d “try again” and I just was stuck in this never-ending loop of them trying to load the next captcha.
I’d have to back out and restart work for the system to actually load a captcha for me. I have a really fast internet connection, and it was working fine, so it seemed more an internal flaw rather than on my end.
Another thing is, there’s a ton of image captchas that are impossible to read. I mean, I literally couldn’t even make out the letters or numbers because they were too blurry.
You do have the option to skip them, but if you skip too many you get penalized. You also get kicked out if you’re inactive or it takes you longer than 15 seconds to solve a captcha phrase or puzzle.
(ok but seriously, some of them are indecipherable..)
Boosting with Typersolver
You will have the option to download their software called Typersolver which lets you get faster images and more smart captchas and puzzle captchas, which are higher-paying.
I would caution against downloading any type of third party software from a website like Megatypers, you never know what crap it could put on your PC.
Who are you solving captchas for with these captcha entry job sites like Megatypers?
Probably spammers. There’s a high demand for bot software to bypass captchas, hence why tons of sites like Megatypers exist.
This piece is a pretty insightful read that further discusses the topic.
Megatypers doesn’t appear super credible…
Something to note about Megatypes is there’s almost no information given about the company. Who are they? What is its mission? Who are you solving these captchas for?
If you look at the main site, there are no pages to click through to tell you any additional information whatsoever.
This makes them less than credible in my eyes and I would not try to commit endless hours of work for a company that could ban my account at the drop of a hat.
In my review of Protypers (which is the same) people left several comments about how they had their accounts banned after putting in countless hours of work. They seem to do be able to do this for any reason, without explanation.
How much can you get paid with Megatypers?
The going rate per 1,000 solved captchas is between 50 – 70 cents. Yes, CENTS. You’re not getting rich here.
The rate varies by time of day, and you may be able to earn more by solving the puzzle and smart captchas.
How long it takes you to solve captchas will vary greatly depending on your speed, but earning around $1 per day would be typical, maybe $2. And that’s for a full day’s work.
Accuracy and speed/banned accounts
Accuracy is very important, your inaccurate work is counted against you and deducted from your earnings.
Speed is another factor – if you’re too slow, you’ll get kicked out. If you get kicked out too many times, your account will get banned.
Banned accounts are the #1 complaint about Megatypers, they can ban you without warning and without paying you first.
The Bottom Line
Megatypers is not a practical job for most people, the pay is simply too low. It may seem like a good option due to the fact you can sign up and start “working” immediately, for free, with no restrictions (not even by age).
However, you would need to invest a ton of hours with virtually non-stop work to even make a couple of bucks. (And that’s if you can keep up the pace without getting banned first)
If you’re looking for a way to earn a few simple bucks online, I would recommend a few different survey companies. You can probably earn more and spend a lot less time doing it! Although even with those, you have to be careful because many aren’t that credible. I suggest trying Survey Junkie and PaidViewPoint!
If you’re interested in a way to earn a more sustainable, passive income you can always check out the company that taught me how to build my own business online. They provide the step-by-step training you need to really build up a solid foundation so you can earn REAL money (I’ve earned nearly $200,000 following the training!)
